Portfolio Analyst
This key role is a vital part of MainStreet Advisors’ portfolio management and client service capacity. Portfolio Analysts contribute both to the management and administration of client portfolios and relationships, and to the creation of MSA investment research and models. As with all positions at MainStreet Advisors, the roles and responsibilities of this position will change as the company and investment industry evolve and client’s needs and requirements change. Currently, this position will involve a combination of analysis responsibilities, portfolio administration, and presentation coordination.
Duties and Responsibilities
Client Portfolio Management:
- Interact directly with and builds relationship of trust with clients through email and phone; some limited travel to client sites
- Work closely with Portfolio Manager to understand investment and operational nuances of each client, and to implement a service plan
- Utilize MSA proprietary software to prepare reviews of client portfolios for compliance with internal investment models and for ad hoc requests such as raising cash levels
- Provide client coverage when the client Portfolio Manager is out of the office
- Execute client projects such as RFP responses, investment presentations, and performance tracking
- Generate proposals for prospect opportunities to build team revenue and assets
Investment Committees:
- Contribute to the research, modeling, and ongoing maintenance of MSA’s investment models
- Actively participate in the analysis and discussions of one or more MSA sub-committees: Equity, Fixed Income, Asset Allocation
- Contribute to year-end mean-variance optimization modeling of our asset allocation strategy
Marketing and Investment Publications/Presentations:
- Contribute to creation of market/economic publications and presentations
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, or a similar concentration, with demonstrated strong interest in and knowledge of qualitative and quantitative investment markets and metrics. Working towards CFA/CFP or MBA preferred.
- Skills: Superior communication skills, both written and verbal; Strong attention to detail and dedication to client service is required. Ability to work independently and with others. Strong organization and time-management skills.
- Experience: 2-4 years of experience in the investment field
- Computer/Technical: Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint. Experience with Bloomberg, Morningstar Direct and order managements systems preferred
Investment Analyst
As with all positions at MainStreet Advisors, the roles and responsibilities of this position will change as the company and investment industry evolve and client’s needs and requirements change. Currently, this position will involve a combination of analysis responsibilities, portfolio administration, and presentation coordination.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Under the supervision of the Head of Investments, conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis focused on the monitoring and evaluation of current and prospective investment options
- Contribute to the management of models in portfolio management platforms utilized to manage client portfolios
- Actively participate in the workflow, analysis and discussions of the team’s investment committee structure
- Gather, organize and analyze financial market data, economic data and client portfolio data
- Proactively work to improve and recommend improvements to investment processes
- Coordination of client and prospect publications and presentations as needed
- Participate in the coordination and creation of written and graphical content for various investment publications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, or a similar concentration

Portfolio Administrator
This position lies at the heart of the administrative management of the investment department, primarily focusing on trading, operations and problem solving. You will be responsible for taking care of investment portfolios. This means managing cash flows, executing trades, ensuring successful settlement, implementing new portfolios and maintaining databases and connections with our outside trading and platform providers. This is a technical job. It involves managing complex systems and integrating platforms to create scalable investment management processes. It requires efficiently processing volumes of data and making decisions in the best interest of clients. Every work day requires analysis, problem-solving and taking action. This is also a communications job. It requires collaborating with the portfolio management team and the rest of the investment and administrative team.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Upload trade files to third party brokers for execution daily
- Create executed bond trade files and upload to respective platforms
- Troubleshoot any failed or unaffirmed trades as notified by brokers
- Address overdrafts as created by executed trades as notified by client banks
- Works on projects as needed to support the portfolio management team.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Education: Four-year college degree
- Skills: Ability to analyze and make decisions and to work well under pressure and meet deadlines. Ability to communicate with coworkers, clients, and business partners while operating as a team member. Numerical skills ranging from basic math to interpreting data.
- Certifications: Working towards completion of the Chartered Financial Analyst curriculum preferred
- Experience: 1-3 years of experience in the field or in a related area preferred
- Computer/Technical: Proficiency in computer software programs and applications such as Excel, Word, as well as Order Management Systems and other financial management platforms. Experience working with Bloomberg and other financial software.
